Modest Shape

As a form of folk pottery, Jieshou pieces often embrace the "round" shape, reflecting two key principles: the circle's symbolism of unity and togetherness, and its practicality—round vessels offer greater capacity and functionality than other shapes, making them more useful in daily life. Historically, it was customary for the bride in the local area to bring a three-colored pottery jar as part of her dowry. This round pottery jar was adorned with carvings of peonies, magpies, and carp. Peonies symbolized wealth and prosperity, magpies signified joy and happiness, and carp represented abundance year after year. These popular motifs reflected the people's longing for a beautiful and prosperous life.
