待施涂的白土干燥到所需程度时,即可将陶器泥坯拿到刻画工作台上开始刻画工序。将泥坯放置在转盘轴心上,然后,右手持刻画铁笔,左手拨动转盘使泥坯旋转,从上到下逐步完成图案的刻画。
Once the white slip has dried to the ideal consistency, the clay piece is ready for the intricate carving process. The pottery is placed on a rotating platform, with the potter using an iron stylus in the right hand while the left hand gently spins the turntable. This careful coordination allows the artisan to etch detailed patterns into the clay surface, starting from the top and working downwards. The precision and skill required for this process are a testament to the artisan's expertise, as each design is meticulously crafted into the clay.
剔花·Sgraffiato
将刻画图案中的一部分白色化妆土层剔除,露出下层的灰色粉土层,在烧制后,粉土层呈红色,从而形成界首彩陶刻花红、白两色的外观。
After the initial design is carved, the artisan carefully removes selected portions of the white slip, exposing the underlying layer of gray powder slip. This technique, known as "sgraffiato," creates a dynamic contrast between the layers. When the piece is fired, the exposed powder slip transforms into a rich red hue, while the remaining white slip turns into an ivory color. This results in Jieshou pottery's signature red and white carved appearance, a striking visual blend of depth and color that showcases the artistry of this traditional craft.
