Located on the Huanghuai Plain, Jieshou owes its rich pottery tradition to the very earth beneath it. Over centuries, the meandering Yellow River has sculpted this area, sometimes carving new paths southward into the Huai River, leaving behind vast stretches of fertile, yellow clay deposits along the banks of the Ying River. Locally known as "Da Jiaoni" or "Huang Jiaoni" ("Great Sticky Clay" or "Yellow Sticky Clay"), this clay is the soul of Jieshou pottery.

The clay for Jieshou Colored Pottery is carefully sourced from a depth of 2 to 4 meters below the surface along the Ying River's banks. This deep, fine-grained clay is exceptionally pliable and sticky, making it the perfect medium for artisans. Its unique composition allows it to withstand the intense heat of the kiln without cracking, transforming into pottery that embodies both resilience and beauty. Here, in this land where the river has gifted its finest earth, Jieshou pottery comes to life, carrying the spirit of the soil in every piece.
